Advice about chimneys

General advice

At ASHE Chimney Sweep want to ensure your safety.  Real fires, stoves and other heating solutions that use chimneys are lovely and often give a home that lovely warm inviting feeling - but if not regularly maintained these can be dangerous.  Never use your appliance if you know or suspect something is wrong and always ensure you have your chimney swept and inspected.

Safety Certificate

ASHE Chimney Sweep is a member of NACS which means we follow a strict code of conduct, regardless of this code  at ASHE your safety is our top priority. Our team conducts comprehensive safety inspections to ensure your chimney meets all safety standards and regulations.  If there are problems that need to be  resolved we will provide options for you to consider.  All being well you chimney will be inspected and cleaned and you will be issued a Certificate of Chimney Sweeping.  Whilst we would love you to choose us to provide these services if you go elsewhere please ensure you use a certified and insured chimney sweep.

Chimney Fires

Chimney fires happen when there is a build up of soot or creosote in the chimney which then catches fire.  This build up can occur when the appliance has been used for long periods without cleaning / maintenance, burning improper fuel such as wood that has not been dried correctly.  Chimney fires are dangerous, you may not know but such fires can reach temperatures greater than 1000 degrees centigrade and can easily turn from a chimney fire to a house fire.

Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Whilst this might sound like common sense people forget, when you have a heat source such as an open fire or stove it is necessary to have working smoke detectors.  We always recommend that our customers check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly to ensure everyone in your household is safe, and if you don't already have one we can arrange to fit one for you whilst we are cleaning your chimney.
